An apple a day keeps the doctor away, goes the adage. But for how long? Sooner or later, we all have to make that visit to the doc. Some do it grudgingly, others more sportingly. A lot depends on the personality, right? Not just of the patient, but also of the one wielding the stethoscope.

Personally, I prefer doctors who talk. Beyond the tedious symptoms and expected treatment, if we can have a conversation – even if only for a couple of minutes – I feel seen, heard, more than a forgettable name in the sea of humanity in the hospital waiting room…

At First Check, a first-of-its-kind health fact-checking initiative, I’ve had the privilege of working with many such incredible doctors, including First Check co-founder Dr Sabba Mehmood. These are brilliant healthcare professionals from across the globe, who have volunteered to fight the good fight against health misinformation, one of the biggest public health challenges of our times.

Today, as India celebrates National Doctor’s Day, here’s wishing all the good folks in white coats a Happy Doctor’s Day! You make the world a healthier, better place. Thank you!
