First Check received a video on our tipline where a man, @jasonvanblerk is seen showing and describing a certain exercise which he claims helps people who're born by C-Section and face issues such as anxiety.
"If you're a C-Section baby, give this a try! Take both your hands and place them on your forehead like you're clamping them, clamp your hands down so you're pulling your forehead to the floor, and then you're gonna move around from right to left then breatheWhat we're doing is we're taking the frontal lobe of the brain and we're separating it from the others (sic),” says the content creator.
“When you're born you're meant to go through the birth canal which also helps create pressure around the head, helping reset and rebalance all the cranial bones. If you're a C-Section baby you're coming out from the front and you don't go through the birth canal so you don't get that pressure redistribution on the head. This frontal lobe gets stuck which leads to anxiety and invasive thoughts. Give this a try, clamp it down, move around and let me know," he adds
The video posted three weeks ago has garnered over 1.6 million views and 17 thousand likes.
@jasonvanblerk is the co-founder of @humangarage where he describes himself as "on a mission to inspire you to heal yourself."
Dr Juhi Bharti, Senior Resident, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, at AIIMS, New Delhi told First Check that the claim is incorrect.
"The association between a C-Section birth and having anxiety is not factual,” Dr Bharti told First Check. “The exercises which you describe may provide relief since any such movement will improve blood flow and .. massaging in general makes a person feel better, but beyond this to claim that the frontal lobe is being separated by clamping your head is nonsense."
The gynaecologist said C-Sections are safe and are performed widely.
There is no scientific evidence linking C-section births to anxiety or supporting the claim that clamping and pulling on one’s head can "reset" the brain—this is misinformation.
