This microscopic marvel is claimed to have an impressive nutritional profile with several health benefits. Even astronauts are supposedly fans of spirulina in space. But is it really the superfood that it is touted to be?

Spirulina can be beneficial, but it doesn’t have to be a necessary dietary addition for all. Just because astronauts consume it in space doesn’t mean that it is essential for all of us on earth, where we have access to a variety of nutrient-rich foods.
